The German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the woodworking and metalworking industries (BGHM) awards its safety prize to companies and trainees who contribute to a safe working environment through new ideas and technical improvements.
Our award-winning solution
When we recognized potential for further improving occupational safety in the CNC area, the idea arose to rethink the clamping process. The goal was to design the machine's operation in such a way that risks were eliminated and workflows were improved at the same time.
To achieve this, the previously manually controlled pneumatics were fully integrated into the CNC program sequence—a technical intervention that automates the control of the clamping device and links it to the machine's safety mechanisms.
Specifically, this means
- The pneumatic system is activated automatically as soon as the CNC program starts
- The clamping process only starts when the work area is locked
- Manual operation of valves is no longer necessary – nor is there any risk of incorrect operation
The result
- Maximum safety for our employees
- Significant time savings in the work process
- Productivity enhancement
- High acceptance within the team thanks to practical implementation
At M&S, we firmly believe that technical innovation arises where responsibility is taken.
We are therefore particularly pleased that the BGHM has honored this initiative with its Safety Award — as confirmation of our stance of viewing occupational safety as an opportunity and integrating it firmly into our corporate culture.
Special thanks go to our employees Philipp Heidemeyer, Stefan Schweers, and Ingo Weber.
